Greetings First African Family! Kilombo Academic and Cultural Institute is now enrolling students for our fall semester. Kilombo provides a culturally relevant, academically rigorous, spiritually grounded instructional program. At Kilombo your child will experience the joy of being taught in a community where he or she is loved, celebrated and expected to reach the highest levels of achievement. Excellent instruction is what we do best! We are now providing instruction to children from the kindergarten to the 7th grade. We are located on the campus of First African Presbyterian Church in the Vanessa Knight Building. Kilombo is an entity of FACDC, First African Community Development Corporation. We exist because of First African’s commitment to institution building! We are proud to announce a discount for First African members in good standing. Please visit our website at www.kilomboschool.com and/or call Aminata Umoja at 404-992-8021.
Kilombo Academic and Cultural Institute will host an open house, Saturday, July 31st from 2:00-5:00. Please come by and see what we are doing, meet the teachers and fellowship with the Kilombo Community. As you know, Kilombo is an entity of First African Community Development Corporation, FACDC. We exist because of First African’s commitment to build African institutions. Kilombo is the manifestation of our faith. Learn our story by viewing us on the show, “Stepping out on Faith,” Wednesday August 18th, the following Saturday at 5:00 am, 7:00 am, and Tuesday at 10:00 pm. At a time when teachers are being furloughed, class sizes are increasing, schools are closing and superintendent’s are being convicted of crimes, First African and FACDC, along with members of the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement and community members, opened a school where our children continue to thrive. Kilombo is beginning its 6th year! At First African Church, our faith is manifested through works! Glory be to God! Call Aminata at 404-992-8021 for more information and visit our website at www.kilomboschool.com.
Charis Books (1189 Euclid Avenue, NE 30307) on August 18, 2010 from 87:30-9:30p.m. will host our own Rev. Dr. Mary Anne Allen Bellinger, for a provocative Faiths and Feminisms discussion examining the connections between sexuality and spirituality as it relates to the church and will ask listeners to consider the various ways that our understanding of sex and sexuality have effected the way(s) in which we see and conceptualize God/the divine. Dr. Bellinger's most recent publications include the articles “Sexuality and Spirituality in the Black Church,” “Living with HIV as a Woman of Faith” and Volume’s I and II of “Expressions.” Don't miss this exciting discussion.
